Mr Marty Smith specialises in surgery of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas, and advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
After completing a degree in Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Melbourne (BSc.). Mr Smith went on to study Medicine at the Flinders University of South Australia (BMBS). Mr Smith then trained in general surgery at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne completing his fellowship in January 2004. He then undertook an Upper GI and Hepatobiliary fellowship at the Western Hospital in Melbourne before travelling overseas for further training.
In the UK a he completed an Upper GI (Oesophagogastric) fellowship at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge then a Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) Surgical fellowship at the Royal London Hospital. He then spent time working with the Liver transplant unit at Kings College hospital in London before returning to Australia.
Currently Mr Smith works with the Victorian HPB surgery Group at Cabrini and is the Director of the HPB Surgery unit at The Alfred Hospital appointments to the Alfred, performing HPB, Upper Gastro-intestinal, General and Trauma surgery; He also provides general surgery consulting and operating at Kyneton hospital. Mr Smith is also involved in surgical teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is a Board-Member of the ANZ HPB Association.
